Spurrier to 'Cocks fans: You gotta pay to play
Secret to winning, Spurrier says, is donor$.
"Our message to the fans is that we have to improve our facilities, and yes, that means money," he said in The Greenville News last week. "I'm not talking about 98 percent of our fans who contribute loyally every year and do all they can, I'm talking about the 2 percent of the wealthy who can step up and really make a difference for us."

Nuns take credit for hockey team's win
Nine nuns at the Convent of the Precious Blood engaged in thoughtful prayer aimed at lifting the Oilers past the Redwings.
Foul this guy, and you'll go to the penalty box...forever.
The nuns "also placed a puck and small wooden stick next to a statue of Jesus in their bid for divine intervention."
Oilers win 4-2. Coincidence???

Police: Logan Young's Death Declared "Accidental"
It seems that earlier, when police said Logan Young had been savagely beaten and brutally murdered in his own home, in a slaying that left blood all over the house and the victim so disfigured that he had to be identified by dental records, they were wrong. According to Sgt. Larry Godwin, Young actually died from falling and hitting his head on a metal chair.
Young: Death ruled "accidental."
Anyone else confused??

Meet the Dollars (seriously, that's their name) who have "forsaken the track infield -- the home of tricked-out R.V.'s, makeshift barbecue pits and parking spaces passed down from generation to generation" for "the plush confines of apartments that, in some cases, cost $1 million or more."

And congrats Fanopticon: 1 million visitors and going strong(ish)
About 8 months ago, the RJYH Fanopticon started on the simple premise that someone out there should keep tabs on the way sports makes people lose their minds. It also began on the even simpler premise that a regularly updated blog with a tie-in to a book on a similar subject would help sell that book.
No idea how we made out on the later, but the blogging thing -- even our quick hit version of it -- started to draw us in. And these days surely no one can argue the Fanopticon's status as THE go-to source on the Web for exceedingly small, occasionally entertaining tidbits about the goof-ball things fans do in the name of sports. We stress "occasionally." And you the clicking public have, as of this week, rewarded us with our 1 millionth visit, and over 2 million page views since we started counting last August, or so says Urchin, our counter software:
Report for RJYH Fanoption Date Range: 8/01/2005 - 4/03/2006
Summary
Total Visitors 1,008,793
Total Pageviews 2,080,730
Total Hits 7,527,522
Total Bytes Transferred 92.57GB
Average Visitors Per Day 4,405.2
Average Pageviews Per Day 9,086.15
Average Hits Per Day 32,871.27
Average Bytes Transferred Per Day 413.9MB
It's enough to make us feel guilty about not posting.
So we'll keep at it. Thanks for the clicks and the tips. Keep em coming. A newsy-ish announcement or two will be coming down the pike soon, so check in. And please support our pet cause of adult literacy by snapping up some goodies in the RJYH store.
Thanks yall.

Author Chabon Cancels UF Talk For March Madness
Apparently Michael Chabon is getting some grief for cancellation of his talk at the University of Florida tonight. But as someone who did an author event in St. Louis the night of a huge Cardinals game at home, I can tell you, Chabon is doing the right thing. When the public has a chance to choose between watching their team play a championship game and watching an author drone on about one of his or her books, I'm afraid literature will always be the loser. Organizers should be pardoned as well: no sane person expected the Gators to be playing for the NCAA championship tonight.
I suggest Chabon reschedule for the evening of this year's SEC Championship game in Atlanta. I predict Gators fans will be free that night.
Orson? Orson...??
