Author Chabon Cancels UF Talk For March Madness

Apparently Michael Chabon is getting some grief for cancellation of his talk at the University of Florida tonight. But as someone who did an author event in St. Louis the night of a huge Cardinals game at home, I can tell you, Chabon is doing the right thing. When the public has a chance to choose between watching their team play a championship game and watching an author drone on about one of his or her books, I'm afraid literature will always be the loser. Organizers should be pardoned as well: no sane person expected the Gators to be playing for the NCAA championship tonight.

I suggest Chabon reschedule for the evening of this year's SEC Championship game in Atlanta. I predict Gators fans will be free that night.

Orson? Orson...??

Dang, Warren, that was cold.

Hopefully true . . . but cold, nevertheless.

Honestly -- you live in NYC, you should expect Yankees to react this way. As for me, if I ever get to a level where I get booked for something, every Saturday from August through the first weekend in December will be blocked out.
Priorities, man, priorities.

Also, you have to give props to CBS for showing UAB's "The Pass" from 2004. Truly, one of the greatest non-football events involving Birmingham.

The Hack is right....UAB should commission Daniel Moore to paint "The Pass". It might help with some of that budget deficit of theirs. I'll always love my home town of Birmingham!

Tomorrow, Warren: a rundown, team by team of who will be doing what that weekend.
