Unofficial Brodie for Heisman campaign officially goes dim
Still the Man.
The BoifromTroy did a noble thing back in October, when the Tide was rising: after losing a bet with me, the obsessed Trojans fan put down his shield and sword and forged the unofficial Brodie for Heisman campaign Web site. As an exercise in viral marketing, it was wicked; it drew over 10K hits in its first week or so, and actually affected the Vegas odds on Croyle's Heisman bid. It also got the BoiFromTroy inundated with AIMs from young women who thought he actually was Brodie Croyle. He somehow fended them off.
Things went a bit South for the Bama offense after the Florida game -- Brodie lost his best receiver, and then the only only experienced offensive linemen and his roommate, to broken legs. And as far the Heisman race goes, well....
Brodie Croyle has had a great year. He took Bama to a 9-2 regular season record -- a big improvement over the seemingly eons of turmoil that have followed the Dubose years. He also has displayed an incredible amount of loyalty to a football program that seemed to be self-destructing all around him, especially after Dennis Franchione -- who had promised to be like a father to Brodie while recruiting him (at the Croyle family orphanage no less) -- bolted without so much as a phone call farewell. (And A&M wonders why it has problems now...)
During all of that, Croyle battled through one season with a dislocated shoulder, and fought through a wicked ACL tear, his second since high school, to put on what will surely be remembered as one of the most raucous victories at Bryant-Denny in years, his 31-3 shellack-o-rama of Urban Meyer's Gators. Oh, and through all that, he became the UA's career passing touchdown leader. The kid's got grit.
I don't know if it was the haircut or just his generally down-to-earth, do-the-work-and-don't-complain attitude, but Brodie also won over a lot of folks who normally go out of their way to loathe everything about Bama football. Anyone who's really a college football fan -- and I'm excluding the nitwit homers out there who can't appreciate any player not on their own rosters -- owes this guy a tip of that hat for making the game, and this season in particular, exciting and at times beautiful.
As far as the Heisman race goes, reality at last has set in, and the Brodie for Heisman site will go dim, although hopefully it won't fade entirely to black. It's a cool momument to a great player and a great season.
Now, after his performance against Fresno State -- truly one most over-the-top, can-you-believe-he-just-did-that? football performances I've seen since Bo Jackson or Herschel Walker were on the field (I'm digging here for a comparison) -- I throw my Heisman support (meaningless, I know, except in the good vibe department, since I don't vote) behind Reggie Bush, who just happens to play for the BoiFrom's team. This isn't payback for the Brodie site, but I appreciate the symmetry of it anyway. Reggie Bush is simply the best college football in America. Vince Young is great player too, and hopefully he'll get his shot next year, but this year, Reggie Bush deserves the statue. I hope he gets it.
Thanks guys for making college football so fun to watch.

Brodie Croyle means more to Alabama than even the average Bama fan wants to admit. I'm not sure exactly what the Heisman winner should be about... The most dominate college football player, or should it be the guy who means the most to his team?
You take Brodie away from the Tide's equation, and I'm willing to bet Bama would not have matched the 6 wins from last season. Take Reggie Bush away from USC, and they still win 10 games or better, going away.
No, I'm not saying Brodie deserves the Heisman, I'm only saying he means more tu UA than Mr. Bush does to Southern Cal. That being said, I do believe if Reggie wins the Heisman, he will be most deserving of it, and will give it honor.
One last thought.... We (Alabama Fans) will all miss Mr. Brodie Croyle. My only prayer is that he will miss us and Alabama too. Somewhere down the road, after his pro career is done, I hope he will consider returning to the Capstone to give Coach Shula a hand at developing the next generation of great Crimson Tide Quarterbacks.
Good luck, Brodie, in all that you do. Don't worry about becoming a Super-Star in life because you already are. Roll Tide, Roll Tide!
I totally agree with those sentiments. I only wish the program could have done more for him the past couple of weeks.
I beleive that this senior class will be remembered as the class that brought Bama back to prominence (similiar to the Kentucky basketball team of 1992 that lost to Duke in the Regional Finals).
They could've easily transferred programs after sanctions hit. Or after coach after coach came and went. But they did not. They simply went about their business, and delivered one of the most joyous seasons seen at the Capstone in years.
From a Diehard Bama fan, I say thank you to the entire senior class. From Croyle to Ryans...they are pure class. Thanks for the memories.

The Heisman is supposed to go to the Most Outstanding Player in College Football.

Without Bush, the Trojans would be 9-2 right now at best. They would definitely have lost to both ND and Fresno State without him.
I think that the highest compliment I can pay this Senior class is that I believe that Coach Bryant would have been proud of them. I think he would have told them that they have class; which they do...
I will miss these guys, they played for the love of Bama and they represented the redshirts as well as any group ever has.
I look forward to watching Brodie, Demeco, and some others playing on Sunday and rooting for them.
Roll Tide Roll
I think that Brodie Croyle is a great quarterback.
I live at 70727 Commonwealth in Seattle. Been up here before?
