TV reporters went undercover as MSU fans at OSU, captured abuse on tape

Two reporters from an Ohio NBC affiliate dressed as Michigan State fans and strolled around campus at Ohio State before a game, a photographer in tow. What did they hear?

From the transcript:

OSU Fans: "Hey, you guys going to prison?"
Fake Spartan Fan: "No."
OSU Fans: "...cause I guarantee the guys at Ohio State are going to (expletive) you guys in the (expletive). [OSU fans laugh] I guarantee it. I guarantee it. You're going to go to that stadium and these guys are (going to) be like, '(expletive) bend over, (expletive).' I'm telling you right now."
Fake Spartan Fan: "We're just going to go enjoy the game."

OSU AD says the U might stop playing night games because of "bad element..."

What were they doing at the OSU Texas game wearing Michigan State gear? And who goes to a game at a big time school like Ohio State wearing another team's gear and doesn't expect to be get a hard time? As long as it stays verbal, who cares?

Fairly selective parsing of the report, don't you think? Go down a couple more graphs and you see the following:

NBC 4's fake Spartan fans found better treatment than they expected, and real Spartans told NBC 4 the same thing.

"To be honest with you, everybody's been great. We just shared beers in the bars with some Ohio State fans, and it was a friendly rivalry for the most part," said Spartan fan Patrick Meyn.

"I was surprised a little bit. (I expected) a little harsher treatment than I actually received today. So it's been good," said Spartan fan Ted Nix.

Yet you snip out the worst of a total of three idiotic, probably drunk, fan behaviors (over the course of two hours) and hold it up as an example of how horrible Ohio State fans are.

Well, yes ... people get drunk and say stupid things at football games.

This posting serves to illustrate how blogs can quite often paint an entirely different version of reality than the stories they're linking to.

I grew up in Columbus and I bleed scarlet and grey, but I even admit that OSU fans are getting way too agressive towards visiting fans. The problem is its not staying verbal. I also think this isn't just an OSU problem.

They were at the Ohio State- Michigan State game. The night games may stop because of reported bad treatment by 'Horns fans.

You do know that "The U" is the University of Miami, right?

Sure. How about we let UM beat OSU and then they can have their title of "The U" back. Until then, I deem it ours.

I'm a MSU fan from Lansing, MI. I went to the MSU-OSU game last year. At the bar afterwards, OSU fans bought me beers and said, "we must bond in our mutual hatred of Michigan. I had a blast.

Yes, there are some crazy OSU Fans... But I blame Michigan... If we didn't have them to hate, we wouldn't be so angry.
