Welcome Aussie RJYH readers!
So the Australian edition of RJYH was published recently, and the locals there have been very kind about the book, if a bit unnerved by the level of devotion shown by some of the characters. (In the Advertiser, a reviewer named Geoff Roach wrote that the Alabama fans in the book "make our own Crows and Power fans seem like pikers.")
Let it be known there is at least one Aussie fan who is no piker: Russell Crowe. Crowe, who was born a Kiwi but grew up in Australia, is trying to buy his own rugby team, the South Sydney Rabbitohs. Crowe's involvement with the team creates any number of cross-branding opportunities. For example, Nokia just signed on as the Rabbitohs' official projectile.
A press release by the team said that under Crowe's ownership, the team would make "innocent hotel desk clerks" of the competition.

Warren, is there a linguistic difference between the Austrailian version and the American one? Just curious if they had to translate some of our Southern colloquialisms into Austrailian slang, or if by "Austrailian version," you mean only that the book is now being sold in Austrailia.
Yes -- all the "howdy's" have been rendered as "g'day," barbecued ribs as "shrimp on the barbie" and all references to attractive Auburn women have been changed to "koalas," for reasons I'm still unsure of.
