Dang: Bama 3-0 and ... Prothro for Heisman???
Darby and Croyle.
I have to admit I was more than a bit worried about the Tide after last week's game v. So. Miss, so I would've settled for an ugly win. Fortunately, I didn't have to, as the Tide played nearly flawless ball away against the Gamecocks. Even the Ol' Ball Coach was impressed: "I was watching him call plays," Spurrier said of Bama's Coach Mike Shula. "I said, 'That's a fun way to call it.' You go back and throw one 60 yards downfield. If you don't hit it, who cares? You're going to run it for the next play and you get to stay on the field."
Personally, I think the AP's ranking of Bama at 20 is more than a little stingy. UGA eeked by SC at home at is ranked 7th; Bama destroyed them in Columbia. I don't figure that one. Bama is 6-0 in Croyle's last 6 starts. This week the Tide showed up with a running game, somewhat unexpectedly for me anyway. Croyle is by far the best quarterback I have seen in my lifetime as a Tide fan, and if Darby and the guys can start running too, I think they have a chance to hang with the big boys in the SEC.
Now...We've all seen Tyrone Prothro's psychotically amazing catch from the Southern Miss game -- and by the way, while a SportsCenter designation as the Play of the Week is nice, nothing in my book is "psychotically amazing" until it merits its own video on CollegeHumor.com under the headline "Insane Catch" -- check out this equally impressive slo-mo video of Prothro blocking two guys at once against South Carolina and saving a Keith Brown TD.
The guy plays wide out, QB, tail back, and returns punts, and when he's not doing all that, he takes out two monstrous defenders in a single block. I'm waiting for him to get the respect he deserves. What say you college football bloggers??
Next up for the Tide: Houston Nutt's recently castrated Hogs. Nutt may be playing this one for his job, so I won't count the Piggies out. In the meantime, my BlogPoll votes will be up later today, along with a wrap up from the RJYH tour.

RE: Arkansas...
1) I think their QB got hurt; don't know his status
2) Houston Nutt had a good quote about whether he'll be able to restore his Defense's self-confidence after that beating.
well what was the quote, you tease!?!

"I'm worried about the psyche of our defense" Arkansas coach Houston Nutt said after his team stepped into the path of USC's runaway offense. "I hope we can get our confidence back."
I'd never count Nutt and his Hogs out, but it will take a miracle for them to feel confident about anything for some time.
I'm ready whip some pig butt... I think our team will take this game seriously and come out on top. They've beat us the last two years. I say beat them into submission and then that sets up for one of the biggest games in recent history: Undefeated Bama vs Undefeated Florida. I can't wait!!
Exactly 5 minutes ago, prothro got hurt. Borken ankle, ouch.
